1. Use Timber in your Spa Inspired Bathroom Design
Nothing beats the natural colour, warmth and texture of natural timber. If you are in the process of building a new bathroom, add a touch of natural elegance to your design by incorporating timber features such as a timber vanity unit, benchtop, wall or ceiling panels or even timber-look porcelain tiles to introduce the beauty of nature into your space.

Another fantastic (and budget friendly!) way to incorporate timber in your bathroom design is of course, to focus on your accessories. Bamboo bath caddies, tumblers and canisters are a great way to achieve the spa look in your bathroom, with the added bonus of being easily changed up when need be.
You may also want to consider storage boxes and trays, bathroom seating options in timber as well as open wall shelves that can be easily installed onto an un-tiled wall.
2. Neutral Colour Tones
Neutral colour tones such as soft whites, beige (or the infamous ‘Greige’), soft greys and deep charcoals are colours that all work well in any combination. This palette helps create a soothing and peaceful scheme; each tone compliements the next without any single colour competing for attention but rather, working in harmony to form a unified and tranquil colour scheme.
Compliment this style in the selection of your accessories: use matching bath towels and bath mats to add a layer of colour and texture to the space.
3. Adding Greenery
Include a touch of greenery in the space to further enhance the involvement of nature in your bathroom. Use plants that do well in darker, steamy indoor environments that won’t require a lot of maintenance.
Succulents are an especially popular indoor plant, providing a no-fuss solution to adding greenery and a pop colour in the space – Not much of a green thumb? Faux flowers are another great solution too!

4. Natural & Artificial Light
If you’re in the design stage of your renovation, do consider the amount of natural light in the space. Consider the room’s orientation and plan any new windows or skylights accordingly, ensuring you have adequate lighting and ventilation in the space. Consider the type of glass or glass treatments you will be using on your windows: frosted glass can provide a more diffused light in the space, making it a perfect fit for a spa inspired bathroom.
For sprucing up an existing bathroom, your local hardware store usually sells frosted glass laminate or sprays that can easily convert a clear glass window to a frosted one, allowing you to achieve the same look for less!
Artificial lighting in a bathroom is also a necessity: Use a light that can be dimmed, allowing you to easily set the mood for relaxation in your bathroom while also providing more focused lighting over the vanity, ideal for applying make up and for shaving.
5. Comfort
What do all spas have in common?
They all focus on their client’s comfort, so why should your own bathroom be any different? Introduce items that are designed to promote comfort in the bathroom – these can range from bath pillows, super plush towels, a fluffy bath robe and matching slippers; Go on, spoil yourself a little!
6. Focus on the Senses
With an emphasis on relaxation and healing, select accessories for your bathroom that excite the senses. Use natural or homemade lotions and scrubs to rid the stress from your skin. Include scented candles in your decorating scheme to use in place of artificial lighting for a long, evening soak in the tub! Add a water resistant MP3 player to play your favourite music and just sit back and relax!
7. A Freestanding Bathtub
If you have the option, do consider including a freestanding bathtub in your bathroom. A relaxing bath is not only great for reducing stress levels but also assists in muscle relaxation, and of course makes a VERY stylish splash in your bathroom! A tub will also add value to your home should you be planning on selling the property, as it appeals to a broader market.

8. Keep your Bathroom Minimal
A cluttered bathroom is not a soothing bathroom! Make use of concealed storage solutions such as ceramic canisters, in-wall cupboard space, lidded baskets and hampers.
