The Block 2020 Room Reveal Week 1: Guest Bedrooms

The Block 2020 promises to be an exciting season, with a brand new twist on 9Now’s favourite renovating show. This year, our couples are challenged with renovating period style homes to create a set of distinct looks with a fresh and modern twist. Starting with the Guest Bedrooms, we’ll be sharing each week’s exciting room reveals along with our thoughts on the designs and fabulous products seen on the show.

Harry and Tash – Judge’s Score: 24/30

  • Harry and Tash The Block 2020 Guest Bedroom Reveal

Following a let down in last week’s House Decider challenge, judges noted Harry and Tash’s improvement in this week’s Guest Bedroom project. Victoria’s father and daughter team have made excellent use of the room’s raked ceiling in their 1920’s house renovation, including a set of Velux skylights to create a light-filled space. A well balanced colour palette complements the styilsh bedhead with discreet nods to the property’s 1920’s style seen in the finishes and textures used throughout the room’s cheerful decorating scheme.

Sarah & George – Judge’s Score: 21/30

  • Sarah and George The Block 2020 Bedroom

Our Western Sydney couple, Sarah and George, delivered not only a guest bedroom this week, but an impressive home office for their 1940’s inspired renovation. Although the space’s look boasted a lovely colour palette, Shaynna (rightly!) commented that the study/home office area could have been better used as a walk-in wardrobe while also observing that the couple struggled with the 1940’s style. I did however, love the inclusion of the inviting occasional chair in the corner which I imagine would make for a cosy little reading nook!

Daniel & Jade – Judge’s Score: 25/30

  • Daniel and Jade The Block 2020 Guest Bedroom

Darren, Shaynna and Neale all agreed that this 1930’s inspired guest bedroom was simply spectacular! The South Australian farmers restored the original pendant light for an authentic touch while also including Asian influences in their selected colour palette as well as their use of artwork and accessories, creating a comfortable and cosy bedroom scheme. Their hard work seems to have definitely paid off this week, only just missing out on the winning spot!

Luke & Jasmin – Judge’s Score: 20.5/30

  • Luke and Jasmin The Block 2020 Guest Bedroom

Western Australia team, Luke and Jasmin’s 1910’s inspired guest bedroom renovation included a bold colour palette paired with luscious natural textures and artwork to create a warm and cosy atmosphere. As stunning as this colour palette was however, I do feel it needed to be balanced out a little better as the overall look seems a little lacking (perhaps using a bold navy blue ceiling paint would have perfected the dramatic look in this design). The judge’s noted that although Luke and Jasmin created a lovely contemporary style, it was not quite fitting for a 1910’s inspired design. A very promising start however and I for one am definitely looking forward to seeing more from these two!

Jimmy & Tam – Judge’s Score: 25.5/30

  • Jimmy and Tam The Block 2020 Guest Bedroom

My favourite room reveal of the week, Queensland team Jimmy and Tam’s efforts have once again paid off for their second win in a row. Their incredibly tranquil 1950’s inspired guest bedroom was absolutely stunning! Although the overall design only just made it into the 1950’s era, the space boasts a serene colour palette that is perfectly complemented by the stylish Grafico wallpaper which creates a discreet feature wall, mirroring the outdoor view. Once again, Velux skylights have been included to create a delightfully light filled atmosphere: a wonderfully relaxing and inspired design! I am especially looking forward to seeing their ensuite reveal in the coming weeks which will use a secret doorway leading from this guest bedroom!
